09001 - Identifying Stroke Victims F.A.S.T
Research shows that a stroke can be reversed if it is treated within 3 hours of it happening. But people usually are unable to recognize the symptoms, and the result could be catastrophic.
Imagine that you are attending a party and one of your friends just fell. You help him up and he assures you that he is okay. He goes home that night, and the next morning you get a call that your friend died of a stroke. Was there something you could have done to save him?
Yes, there is something you can use to recognize a stroke FAST.
It is called F.A.S.T
Face Arm Speech Test is the method ambulance paramedics use to accurately identify a stroke patient before they arrive in the hospital. You can use it too, if you suspect there is something wrong with someone around you.
The test assesses 3 neurological signs of stroke:
Facial weakness
Arm weakness
Speech disturbance
How is this done?
Face: Ask the individual to SMILE.
Arm: Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS.
Speech: Ask the person to TALK and SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE, coherently. (i.e. It is sunny out today.)
If he or she has trouble with ANY ONE of these tasks, you should call the emergency number immediately and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher. You might save a life.
However, now there is a new way to check for a stroke, to add to the list above:
Ask the person to stick out his or her tongue. If the tongue is 'crooked', if it goes to one side or the other, that is also an indication of a stroke.
Let everyone know of this information, because one day it might save a life.
Now, for those who are more nature inclined:
Cayenne pepper will stop a stroke or heart attack instantly!
I have learned long ago, that Cayenne is one of the most important herbs you can have in your repertoire. Considering how easily it is available, it is usually an underestimated herb. Because it is very HOT, many people would shy away from it.
They are sadly mistaken. Cayenne is an herb that should be understood and known about, because it can save your life. It contains Capsaicin that activates nerve endings in the mouth to open up capillaries and arteries.
This is why your face goes red immediately after consuming a HOT pepper. Knowing this little trick, you can imagine that putting a teaspoon of Cayenne into someone's mouth, who is having a stroke would save his or her life (and might get rid of the symptoms of the stroke by the time the paramedics arrive).
It is hot and will burn the tongue, you would say... Well, yes, it is a small price to pay to stay alive.
1) The tongue will heal by replacing its cells and there will be no permanent damage if any.
2) Would you rather die than have a burning sensation in your mouth?
You can get used to eating hot peppers. Start with a very small amount and slowly increase the dose. Your will be surprised with your tolerance over time.
I was absolutely intolerant myself. I hated anything hot. But life convinced me otherwise. I started 1 drop of a Cayenne Tincture in a glass of water or soup. Than next time I added 2 then more. Now I can take a dropperfull of Cayenne straight into the mouth.
You can use it on all your foods. It will greatly enhance the flavor. You can buy a big jar of it at a dollar store, a natures store, a health food store or even in your local supermarket. It is very inexpensive and it will keep your arteries free from cholesterol.
Scoville Scale or Heat Unit:
The Scoville scale is a measure of the hotness or piquancy of a chili pepper, as defined by the amount of capsaicin, (a chemical compound which stimulates nerve endings in the skin) present.
0 HU would be No heat and is associated with Bell pepper.
100–500 HU would be a Pimento or Pepperoncini
500–2,500 HU would be an Anaheim pepper, Poblano Pepper or Rocotillo Pepper
2,500–8,000 HU would be a Jalapeño, Guajillo or a Paprika (Hungarian wax pepper)
10,000–23,000 HU is a Serrano Pepper or some Chipotle peppers
Now for the real heat and your range for the purpose of this article:
30,000–50,000 HU would be "yours truly" the Cayenne Pepper, Ají pepper, Tabasco pepper, and some hotter Chipotle peppers
50,000–100,000 HU would be the Thai Pepper, Malagueta Pepper, Chiltepin Pepper or Pequin Pepper
100,000–350,000 HU would be the Habanero chili, Scotch Bonnet Pepper, Datil pepper, Rocoto, Jamaican Hot Pepper, African Birdseye, Madame Jeanette
Everything above this is overkill and not recommended.
350,000–580,000 HU would be the Red Savina Habanero
855,000–1,050,000 HU is the Naga Jolokia
500,000–5,300,000 HU used in the Law Enforcement Grade pepper spray, FN 303 irritant ammunition
8,600,000–9,100,000 are the Various capsaicinoids (e.g. homocapsaicin, homodihydrocapsaicin, nordihydrocapsaicin)
And finally 15,000,000–16,000,000 HU is the pure capsaicin
Practical usage of your Cayenne Pepper:
If there is any sign of a stroke or heart attack, use a teaspoonful of cayenne directly into the victims mouth, Then wash it down with water, then call 911 immediately. While you wait, the pepper will activate the nerve endings and will open the arteries wide. For stroke victims the Cayenne opens the up blood flow to the brain preventing subsequent brain damage.
Dr. Schultz, the famous natural healer, and my personal hero, says that "it's most likely the stroke or heart attack symptoms will be gone before the medical team arrives and because the blood vessels to the heart were expanded, no or very little heart damage will be found." Yes, it will burn the mouth and tongue, which will heal with replaced cells, and it will hurt at the other end. It, too, will heal. It is a small price to pay for surviving a heart attack or a stroke.
WARNING! Do not take the cayenne in an encapsulated form. Why? Because in a capsule the capsaicin will not activate the nerve endings in the mouth, defeating its whole purpose. You will throw out the benefits and exchange them for heavy cramping in the stomach.
Cayenne would also stop bleeding in open wounds or gashes. Just sprinkle it on the wound. The bleeding will stop almost immediately, as if by magic AND it will NOT burn or hurt, as some believe. The wound is already traumatized; the cayenne won't hurt. Cayenne will both increase circulation AND stop bleeding.
Another interesting effect of Cayenne that it is a great catalyst for other herbs. When taking it with other herbs it would increase their effect 10 fold because of the incredibly increased circulation.
I hope this is some use to you. Let me know what you think.
